Hilton resembles an English country village and is only 10 kilometers from Pietermaritzburg - People are attracted to Hilton as it is cooler than Pietermaritzburg and has scenic Drakensberg views. The town has 10 000+ residents but still maintains its village feel. It is home to no fewer than five excellent schools, including the boarding schools St Anne's and Hilton College. Hilton College has become the site of the Hilton Arts Festival during September. Garlington is a popular residential estate in Hilton.

The buzzing town is located in the uMngeni Municipality just off the N3 highway. It is home to the Howick Falls which cascade 95 meters over dolerite cliffs. Howick is 1050 m above sea level and is about 88 km from Durban. It has warm summers, and cool dry winters, and gets chilly when snow falls on the nearby Drakensberg. It is home to a number of senior citizen residential estates known as the Ambers.

Kamberg lies in the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains along the Mooi River with trout dams, lovely scenic walks, and self-guided trails - it is also home to bushman rock art at Game Pass shelter. Trout fishing can be enjoyed all year round in the river, dams, and close by in the trophy trout fishing dams of Highmoor.

Lidgetton is a tiny tranquil town in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands about 15 minutes from Howick - boasts a community of creative people and artists The town has a quaint Café, post office with a number of Bed and Breakfasts, and Guest Houses - a popular place to stay. It is home to the Nelson Mandela Capture site and memorial to Former President  Mandela.

A rural town in the Dargle Valley, on the Midlands Meander route, got its name from the last lion shot in the area in 1856. The Lions River Conservation District covers some 2,000 square kilometers and the area is known for dairy farming.
