The capital and second-largest city in KwaZulu-Natal. Founded in 1838 it has come a long way from the quiet, colonial outpost it once was - it is now a modern city that is home to over 600 000 people of diverse cultures.
Pietermaritzburg is the "City of Choice" being only 45 minutes by road from Durban, Africa's Busiest port; one hour by road from The King Shaka International Airport; only 90 minutes from central Drakensberg resorts; it is an educational center of excellence being home to many excellent schools and tertiary education institutions, including the campus of UKZN.
